Some Popular NYSC Questions And Their Answers - How To Know Which NYSC Stream You Belong

HOW DO I KNOW WHICH NYSC STREAM I BELONG TO?

This is a major question that pose as a big deal to most prospective corp members. PCMs should be aware that distribution of streams by the NYSC management is done randomly. There is no specific order in which streams are distributed in a particular NYSC batch.

Infact if you think you will be placed in a stream 1 based on the fact that you registered on time before most people you are getting it all wrong, NYSC distribution of streams was never enacted on "First come First serve".

Funny enough a PCM who registers last can be placed in the stream 1 of a particular Batch while another PCM who registered first can be thrown to the stream 2 of that same Batch. In other words, one can only know and ascertain the stream they belong to when the Call-up letter for a specific NYSC batch is released.

Be also aware that if you have been getting notifications from NYSC like; "Sorry you are not in this stream" prior to when call up letter is released just kindly ignore. More So, do not let anybody deceive you by swindling your money and promising to place you in a particular stream you wish to serve because that is impossible, even NYSC top officials don't have such power.

The NYSC system has been designed with an algorithm that distribute prospective Corp members randomly without sentiment. Usually, once Call-up letter is released, those who fall in stream 2 will be notified. Do yourself a big favour by disregarding any information about tricks to know what stream you belong, they don't work.

HOW DO I CANCEL MY RELOCATION IF I AM NO LONGER INTERESTED IN THE STATE I WAS REDEPLOYED TO?

Some PCMs are too quick and eager to apply for relocation once they get posted to a particular state they are not comfortable with. This rush has led many PCMs to change their mind and wish they served in the state they were originally posted to, by the time they realise such it's already too late.

Here is a guide on how to cancel your relocation to another state if you have applied for one and it has already been processed or approved.

If after your relocation has been approved and you have already paid the N1000 or N1,165 required to print your relocation letter (some relocated corp members are not requested to make such payment) but you eventually change your mind to stay at your initial state of deployment, you are advised to apply for cancellation of relocation through the mobilisation department of the initial state where you camped or where you were previously posted to. Visit the federal Secretariat of the state for more info on how to go about it.

WILL I STILL SERVE IF I AM ABOVE 30 YEARS?

The truth of the matter is YES. You can serve if your present age is above 30 during the NYSC batch you are to go with. But this is only possible if you graduated from your school at an age less than 30.

The NYSC age is calculated based on the age an individuals graduated from his or her institution i.e the age you were finally cleared from school. For those PCMs who graduated above 30 years of age, they are normally given a notification of when to print or collect their NYSC exemption letter/certificate. An NYSC exemption certificate is a certificate which is usually issued to individuals that are exempted from National youth corp service, mainly individuals above 30 years.

TEN (10) IMPORTANT THINGS TO DO AFTER ORIENTATION CAMP

As the orientation camp is almost over, you’re now free from the early morning hassle, meditation, and strenuous drills. You are on to another phase of the service. This time it’s not about drills but responsibility and the next line of action for your own future. Here are some things you should do after the orientation camp. - Settle down : In your posting letter, it is indicated where your Place of Primary Assignment (PPA) is and you must have been conveyed by representatives of the different Local Government Areas where you’re posted to the area. Some local governments also have Corpers Lodge which you can make use of before you proceed to your PPA. For some, these places eventually become their permanent residence for the service year. - Locate your PPA and NYSC Area or Local Office : Don’t carry your bags and trav...
